Budget 2014 - Nothing for Low waged or Women at 60 on Benefits

Well No Surprise There

The Budget says it was for low waged, giving £10,500 basic tax allowance for next year.

But for the most vulnerable, low waged, sick and disabled, all that is promised is even less help in life.

WOMEN PENSIONERS SHORT OF A PENSION AT 60 STILL NO BETTER OFF

No mention in Budget of state pension or the changes coming with the Flat Rate Pension in 2016.

But for single pensioners, we can see that women at 60 are losing around £5,727,80 a year and if not in work would also gain pension credit of £35.25 a week, so £145.40 a week, or £7,560,80 a year.

And next year lose £7,714 a year.

This is below the basic tax threshold of £10,000 this year and £10,500 next year.

Age UK inform that you can get your state pension even if still working beyond age 65 (or your retirement age now).

Age UK inform that Category D state pension is a non-contributory pension for people over age 80 years, which is around £66.00 per week.

Age UK inform the category B with spouse's full contributions, wife's state pension £66.00 per week.

A divorcee lady could claim against former husband's full contributions to a maximum of around £110.15 a week.

A widow / widower could inherit State Pension and keep it once receiving it by age, even if remarry.

FLAT RATE PENSION CHANGES FROM 2016

Pension credit, state earnings-related pension scheme (SERPS), and the second state pension end 2016 with the Flat Rate Pension.

The National Insurance contributions required rise from 30 to 35 years.

Those with less than 10 years NI credits, will get nothing.

Those people expecting more than the flat rate of £144 (only 30 per cent of new claimants will get that figure from 2016) because of SERPs will not get that extra.

And that part of the state pension above the £144 flat rate is not guaranteed the annual increases as the main state pension would be (called the triple lock).

So all in all, the state pension is being lowered bit by bit by stealth.
